While following a keto diet, you need to keep in mind that you have to drink a lot of water so that your body is hydrated. You might feel a dry mouth if you did not drink enough and get enough electrolytes, like salt. You might even experience a metallic taste in your mouth.

• Increased urination –

• Keto breathe –

Acetone is a ketone body will be escaping through your breath.

How to measure ketosis?

There are three ways to measure for ketones –

1. Urine strips

2. Breath ketone analyzers

3. Blood ketone meter

 

1. Urine strips – Buying urine strips are the easiest and less expensive way to measure ketosis. You can easily find it online or any store.

Dip the strip in your urine, and wait for 15 seconds, you will see a color change.  This color change will show you the presence of ketones.

If you see a dark purple color it means that you are in ketosis.Keep in mind that these results will vary depending on how much fluid you drink. Plus it doesn’t show a precise ketone level. When you become keto-adapted and your body reabsorbs ketones from the urine, and the urine strips might not show you any dependable results, even if you’re in ketosis.

Thus, this test might sometimes stop working and always show you a negative result, even if you’re in ketosis.

 

2. Breath-ketone analyzers – This will measure ketones in your breath. This is a little bit expensive, reusable many times. But, it does not give you accurate results.

 

3. Blood-ketone meters – Blood-ketone meters will show you the most exact level of ketones in your blood. It is the most expensive out of all three.
