Foods For Healthy Nervous System

Your brain is the main guiding part of your body; you need to take care of your nervous system health always. You might be experiencing things like numbness, nervous twitches or even some time muscle cramps. Luckily, one of the best ways you can do to help ensure a healthy nervous system is to eat the right and healthy foods. For that, you should also know which nutrients are required by your brain to keep it healthy. So here are the list of nutrients and that nutrient containing food which you should include in your diet.

  • Vitamin B1 (thiamin)

If a person has the deficiency of Vitamin B1, this will give you pins and needles sensation in your toes or you might feel burning feet, particularly at night. Vitamin B1 containing foods are eggs, seafood, beef liver, beans, brewer’s yeast, and sunflower seeds.

  • Vitamin B6

If a person has the deficiency of Vitamin B6, then his/her nerve cell communication suffers. There are 2 main neurotransmitters, known as dopamine and serotonin which needs vitamin B6 for their production. Therefore this vitamin is very essential for sending signals. Vitamin B6 containing foods are chickpeas, potatoes, and bananas.

  • Vitamin B12

If a person has a deficiency of Vitamin B12, then it can lead to tingling and numbness in the hands and feet. Vitamin B12 containing foods are fish, Clams, meat, eggs, and dairy products.

  • Copper

Similar to vitamin B6, copper is required for the production of neurotransmitters. If a person has deficient in copper, then it can cause spinal cord degeneration and an increased loss of nerve function. The best sources of copper are Liver and oysters.

You can also add spinach, prunes, nuts, and kale (any other dark leafy green vegetables) to your diet to get even more copper.

  • Cocoa – Cocoa is a powerful antioxidant which reduces oxidative stress that can cause Alzheimer’s.
  • Garlic – Garlic is rich in antioxidants containing food. Garlic can also help in preventing aging of the brain and prevents infections.

  • Whole grains

As we know that vitamin B6 is essential for our brain, this can be achieved from brown rice as they contain high levels of vitamin B6. This helps you by protecting against mental deterioration occurred due to high levels of harmful homo-cysteines.

Whole grains also contain magnesium, which is also necessary for the healthy nervous system.

  • Whey

Whey is a great food for a naturally calming effect. Whey is high in L-tryptophan, this is an essential amino acid which our body cannot produce, and it is important for the production of serotonin, which is an essential neurotransmitter. Low levels of serotonin can cause depression.

  • Spinach

Spinach is known as a powerhouse stock of many nutrients and vitamins. Plus other than that this leafy green vegetable is also high in antioxidants and do boost your immunity, treat various disease, and it also slows down the aging of the brain and nervous system.
